US app maker Blix on Monday took its combat in opposition to Apple to Europe because it laid out its grievances in opposition to the iPhone maker to EU antitrust chief Margrethe Vestager, saying that Apple just isn’t taking part in honest.
Blix’s criticism got here amid Vestager’s ongoing investigation into Apple’s App Store and cell cost system Apple Pay as she strikes to curb the ability of on-line gatekeepers on which 1000’s of corporations rely for enterprise.
Blix beforehand sued Apple for excluding its BlueMail product from the Mac App Store, accusing the corporate of infringing its patented expertise and abusing its dominance within the app retailer.
Apple, which subsequently allowed BlueMail again within the digital store, had cited safety points for the exclusion.
“It is clear to us that Apple is not playing fair,” Blix founder Ben Volach wrote in a letter to Vestager seen by Reuters.
“In writing this letter, we are trying to dispel a misconception perpetrated by Apple. The App Store is not a level playing field; developers are not treated equally when they compete with Apple’s own apps. Our own experience bears this out,” he stated.
Volach urged Vestager, who will announce by the tip of the 12 months powerful new guidelines referred to as the Digital Services Act to make US tech giants play honest, to look deeper into Apple’s actions.
“They mask Apple’s ambition to fully control this essential marketplace and distribution channel in order to maintain its apps’ dominance to its competitors’ disadvantage,” he stated.
US social media large Facebook and Microsoft not too long ago voiced issues about Apple’s App Store guidelines, which the European Commission stated it was conscious of.
