There has been a current spurt of assaults on Hindus and Sikhs in Afghanistan by terrorists on the behest of their “external supporters” and India has been offering obligatory visas to members of those communities who wish to come, the Ministry of External Affairs mentioned on Thursday.
MEA spokesperson Anurag Srivastava mentioned as soon as those that wish to come and settle in India arrive within the nation, their requests shall be examined and acted upon primarily based on current guidelines and insurance policies.
Asked about how India is facilitating Sikhs and Hindus from Afghanistan wanting to return and have been there any plans to present them citizenship, Mr Srivastava famous that the query comes in opposition to the backdrop of Nidan Singh Sachdeva, a Sikh neighborhood chief of Afghanistan who was kidnapped in Paktia province final month, and launched from captivity on Saturday.
“There has been a recent spurt of attacks on the Hindu and Sikh communities in Afghanistan and these attacks have been done by terrorists at the behest of their external supporters,” Mr Srivastava mentioned, in an obvious reference to Pakistan.
“We have been receiving requests from the members of these communities. They want to move to India, they want to settle down here, and despite the ongoing COVID situation, we are facilitating these requests,” he mentioned.
The Indian Embassy in Kabul is offering them obligatory visas to return right here and as soon as they attain right here, their requests shall be examined and acted upon primarily based on current guidelines and insurance policies, Mr Srivastava mentioned.
